You downloaded hardware drivers for a non-microsoft hardware device from
Microsoft?
Recommendation: Never do that.

Microsoft did not create most of the hardware in your system. They may
offer the driver on their page because the company who actually did create
said hardware gave them the driver and ask them to certify it and post it
and likely *paid* for that priviledge. The process to do this is usually
not 'quick' - and thus - sometimes by the time the driver has been approved
and posted - many more versions of it have been released by the hardware
manufacturer themselves - possibly fixing issues with the driver that is now
posted on the Windows Update web site.

That is why you find little to no suggestions/recommendations to download
the drivers (of any type other than POSSIBLY those products created by
Microsoft) from the Windows Update site.

The problem may not have been the driver itself - but the driver in YOUR
system with the other few dozen factors that make your system different than
every other system on the planet.

Thanks to all. I do realize the reality of the comments regarding this post
and understand that the "Drivers" are Trash. Just didn't pay attention to
the updates this am. I always (well apprently NOT) use the manufacturer's
updates.

Thanks Shenan for the Incident report link. I opened one up just before this
post.

I gave up updating long ago, I'm still using SP1 with only one major patch
(the Sasser worm update), precisely because I got sick to death of patches
making things worse than before. I don't think MS have heard of the phrase
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Honestly, most patches and updates are
simply about protecting the end user from hacking attempts (read the
detailed description for each update and that is what it always seems to
say!)...which is funny, because that's what I thought a firewall - hardware
or software - is for. A stealthed pc cannot be exploited to the same degree
as one with all its ports exposed to the 'net. As for me, I've had no hacks,
no viruses, no spyware. And my money is still in my bank account I just
don't buy this MS "you must update at all times" BS.
