I've been out of the country, sorry - just got back at 2AM. My luggage
evidently took another flight, of course. =)
What's a current crash bucket data set? I'm puzzled that you don't have
Voxware on this system... ?
What's the data set under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32
? Anything beginning with "msacm." is interesting. You can still have
Voxware installed without that, but it's slightly less likely.
Alternatively, you could put up the DMP file somewhere I could look at it...

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if there were any developments with this bug. I am
getting an identical behaviour. How do I uninstall dodgy codecs? Any
help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Andy

Hey, don't worry, I worked it out. Getting rid of the Voxware codec in
the registry sorted the problem. Thanks for the help!

Just run the regedit application to edit your registry settings
Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32
delete anything in there that begins with msacm
And it should work.
Good luck!

That's not nice. That'll destroy all their audio codecs. Don't troll.

I had a similar problem, although my problem report listed Hang, as well as
Crash. I found and deleted the mcacm registry values. It worked. Thanks:-)
However, I don't know what had installed them.
Best of wishes!

At this point the only people that are likely redistributing Voxware are
unlicensed codec packs. Distribution of this codec generally stopped in
1998. It's got several serious bugs (as you evidently noticed) and probably
should not be installed to any system. When I deal with vendors who have
content using that audio codec, I advise them to reencode the content
precisely to spare the users. =\

1) I just found -- and deleted -- the msms001.vwp. While I did find the
ATIUMDV.dll, I didn't delete it (should I?). Instead, I ran Driver Update
search from Device Manager for the ATI Radeon I have, and it said it was
already up to date.
2) After deleting all msacm entries [HKEY.....Drivers, as you had listed], a
new one reappeared. I deleted it, but I think the program that uses it
(hopefully a ligit one!) will enter it again, under msacm.siren entry. I also
had an ogg codec installer, which I uninstalled. I didn't know where it had
come from. Their weblink was very hasty.
3) Should I also delete, in RegEdit, those entries similar to above under
the Driver Cache? I didn't, because I thought it was just an inactive
reference list, especially because after deleting the msacm main entries (see
above), WMM ran fine.
4) BTW: WMM can now publish, but it hangs when a clip has been split. Is it
a memory issue, or should I change s/t in the folders directory, e.g. moving
its temp folder to a separate disk?
Thanks so much for these posts. They were the best I found in two days!

1: It would be better to have uninstalled Voxware, but that is also a
crippling blow to it that removes the offending code.
1b: ATI: You might want to check directly with ATI.
2: "All" is scary. Vox entries are all that should be removed. If you
removed them all, you probably want to System Restore back and only touch
msacm.vox* entries.
3: No.
4: If it hangs, do you ever get a Hang Report option? The associated data
found in the Problem Reports and Solutions center might be illuminative.
But this may be related to killing all your audio codecs, since that's
probably not the best idea. =)

No, sorry, crashes in third party applications aren't *generally* going to
be interesting. You'd generally have to take those to the software vendor
who created that application. If it's Microsoft code, I may be vaguely
useful, but if it's in a third party's codebase -- I probably won't have any
useful data. =)
