Whenever I use remote desktop to connect my laptop to my desktop computer the
default printer on my desktop gets changed. This has been happening for quite
some time but I have started to really get annoyed. It always changes to the
same default (a printer that is offline and has a 55mm x 55mm printing area).
Subsequently, if I don't correct the problem, the defaults for print jobs
change and a single page can turn into hunndreds of pages.

Can anyone give me any insite as to how to correct this?

Thanks to anyone that can help.

Newbie,

Thanks for the quick response but I had already been there. I don't have any
problem using a remote printer it's just that the default printer on the
computer that I am connecting to changes.

Thanks again.

Barry,

In that document it shows that the name of the selected printer will
override the other. This is the reason for that link

I've found a workaround to a similar problem using a 2-line script and the Task Scheduler. Perhaps you can adapt my workaround to Windows XP and your issue. You can create a script to change your default printer back every 5 minutes, for example. XP has some limitations in Scheduled Tasks vs. the task scheduler in Vista, but it might help.

(My problem was with Vista not reestablishing your original default printer when you connect locally)

Good luck.
