In all my WinXP drives, I have a RECYCLER folder in the root drive with a
very large number of files. Is it OK to delete these files and if so, will
simply hitting the delete key do the job? I mean how do you send the
contents of the RECYCLER folder to the recycle bin?

Hi Sitara,

Right click on the Recycle Bin (probably on the Desktop) and select
"Empty Recycle Bin". That will empty the Recycler folder (unless you
have Norton, which will create Norton Protected Folders within the
Recycler folder). If you have a Norton Protected Recycle Bin, right
clicking and selecting "Empty Norton Protected Files" will empty all the
Norton recycled files. (IF you have Norton, they are two different
operations)

Open up the recycler and open File -> Empty Recycle Bin

I lend my external portable MAXTOR HD to a friend of mind temporary
because he need to use urgently but his own was lost few days ago.

I deleted everything except some unimportant files in it.

He returned to me few days later, for safety I use Window Defender to
scan it for any possible spyware that may have contaminated the HD when
he used.

To my very surprise, a few seconds needed to scan for several small
files ending up showing it continuous to scan a ‘RECYCLER’ folder
follows by a long series of number then shows all my files name
previously stored in that HD!!! My personal files still there!

I cannot recall whether it happen the same when I scan the same drive
before. I done another test with different other HD and this doesn’t
happen. It only scan those file name appear on the drive. Would this
indicate or even a ‘conclusive evidence’ that my friend deliberately use
some method to extract my deleted files from the recycle folder.

I know it may be too late, but I don’t want to start an argument
without 100% sure about this point. Pls help me.

The "recycle" bin stores the file name and path for file restoration. So
are the files actually still on the drive? You don't say how you
"deleted" the files.
