I recently had to re-install FSX and now I no longer have any text in the
pull-down menus. I've tried changing the font in displaly properties,
updating my video drivers and everything I can think of trying. Still no text
in the menus.
Install worked fine and FSX runs ok. Activation went ok as well.
Missing menu items can be selected but I have no idea what I'm clicking
without the text showing.
I suspect something got changed when my 11 year old was using the computer
but I've had no luck trying to fix the problem.
Any help would certainly be appreciated. |

Hi 6bucks,
Since that problem just started happening recently, try a System Restore.
How to use Windows XP System Restore:

I've been having this same problem for a while. It occurred after I
accidentally installed a very large number of fonts and had to go through and
delete all of them. I replaced all necessary fonts, including the fonts from
the FSX disk. I also deleted and reinstalled FSX several times. All I can
think of doing is reinstalling Vista, but that is too much trouble. I've
gotten used to guessing where everything is. Not what you want to hear, I
know, but at least you are not alone.

Yeah..I reinstalled several times as well. Not that I'd wish it on anyone but
I'm glad I'm not alone. Ive read post from several others with the same
problem and no fix. It's pretty pathetic when you can't even use software
written by the company who's operating system you're using. Especially for as
much as I paid for it. I just guess the menu's too. I refuse to reinstall an
operating system because of this kind of problem. Everything else I use works
fine.

I wish I could tell you the problem is a complex one so I could build my
ego but, it's not. The issue is that FSX requires the Verdana font for
the drop down menus when the program is running. For some reason it
cannot see the file in your Windows/Fonts directory where it looks IF IT
CAN'T FIND IT IN THE FSX DIRECTORY WHERE IT LOOKS FIRST.
Here's the easy fix (you must close FSX first!) .....
1. Go to your Windows/Fonts directory and copy the verdana.fft file
(You will NOT be able to right click and use the mouse menu for this -
use the menu items at the top bar i.e. Edit/Copy)
2. Paste this file into your FSX/Fonts directory. Assuming a "standard"
install, this would be C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Flight Simulator
X/Fonts
3. Start FSX and enjoy!
4. I wrote this up and gave it Microsoft for their FAQs so, this is an
advanced workaround for you guys ... let me know how it goes!
