Hi Everybody.
IE7 on Vista won't play videos online.
Security settings are default, play web media content is activated and the
program defaults are set to IE7 and Windows Media Player.
IE7 is the only installed browser.
By the way, this PC was purchased yesterday and this wasn't working right
from the start.
Please give me some advise.
Thanks in advance,
Tommy |

Hi Tommy,
Have you installed Adobe Flash Player yet? It is responsible for
playing most video content online.
If not, you can download it from here:

Ok Tommy,
Check to see if WMP11 has all of it's default associations set to it.
Go to this link and scroll down and look at this section "Set Your
Default Programs File Type Associations" for how to do it.

I have the same exact problem as you do and I have posted on here over and
over again and taken all the advise like setting all defults to IE 7 and
Windows Media Player but as you said when I click a video link in IE 7 then
Windows Media Player will not pop up as usual and play the video. I have been
told in these discussions that this is a bug in Internet Explorer 7 but no
one in here will notify Microsoft about this problem. I have seen tons of
posts in here about this same problem or versions of this same problem
depending on the system being used so this does look like a bug in IE 7. I
don't have Microsoft tech support so I wish someone who does would notify
Microsoft about this problem.

........all the file associations are correct.
I have checked this before, that's not it.
These days when you buy a new laptop you only have the revovery cd and no
Windows OEM version so I can restore the system only to the screwed up state
which the system was from scratch one, because it was loaded with junk right
from the start.
Could it be helpful to download IE7 and reinstall it?
Maybe it's worth a try.......thanks again.......Tommy.......

Hi,
Just guessing...
From IE> Tools> Manage add-ons, ("Show" field) in all four categories make
sure that Media player is enabled.
Try running IE7 with all add-ons disabled except Media Player.
Clear your Temporary Internet Files from Internet Options> General>
Browsing History> Delete> (next screen) Delete files. Also, set the size of
the cache to 60-80 MB... Internet Options> General> Browsing History>
Settings.
Turn on the Windows Firewall from Control Panel> Windows Firewall and
disable the third-party security suite (McAfee, Norton) that was (probably)
preinstalled. See if that program is causing the problem.
Hope this helps,
Don

Tommy,
You might give Vigilante's and Don Varnau's suggestions a try.

What exactly happens when you click on a link?
Or are you referring to videos embedded within a web page, as opposed to
clickable video links?

I'm having the same problem but I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.9. It was working not
long ago but it isn't now. Against my better judgement, I did go into my IE7
and attempt it but it still won't work. Help, please and thanks!!!

Hi Tommy,
I had the same sort of problem with IE7.
I found the following solution, after trying other suggestions with no
success.
1: Click on Vista Orb.
2: Click "Default Programs".
3: Click "Set Program access and computer defaults".
4: Double click on "Custom"
5: Under 'Choose default media player' click "Windows Media Player"
The click OK and exit.
hope this helps
Chris
