Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>general (more info?)

I installed a game on one of our Windows XP PC's. It runs properly in the
Administrator account, albeit somewhat sluggishly. However, when I try to
run it in the user account the screen goes blank, a message pops stating
"Unable to write to C:\WINDOWS\Kyou.ini, and the game hangs. A new window
states that preferences are being loaded. This never completes. Task
Manager shows two instances of the game "Running." I close both and get the
desktop back.

I loaded this game on a different Windows XP PC. It runs fine (and faster)
in both accounts.

Can someone please explain what is going on to me? Is there anything I can
do? We have an OEM version of XP installed. Could this problem be
OEM-related?

Only the administrator, power users or the system accounts can write to
c:\windows\*

You should use "RunAs" to run the program with administrator credentials
while on a limited account.

Check this articles for a solution:

Create a shortcut using the runas command

Runas:

good luck
