If I have more than one window open and move the cursor off the smaller
window in front, it disappears. Please can anyone tell me how to change it
so that it stays on the screen.

Does this happen regardless of the programs you are running or is it specific
to a single program you are using?

If it only happens when you are running a specific program it could mean
that the program has code that grabs the focus whenever the cursor is over a
part of its window. If this is what's happening, the only thing you can do is
drag the smaller window off of the 2nd windows so that you can see both at
the same time.

Thanks for your reply. This is happening with all programs.

After you move the cursor off of the small window are you clicking on the
larger window that is behind the small one or does just moving the mouse
cause the larger window to hide the smaller window?

It is either a TweakUI setting or a mouse setting that is "stealing focus"

Check those both for settings if you have TweakUI. The mouse settings
should be found in Control Panel

This is a feature of windows where it replicates the behaviour of the Unix
X-windows interface where the window over which the mouse hovers
automatically becomes the focus. Personally, I hate it, but others love
it - particularly hardened Unix users. It is registry tweak, but by far the
best way to fix it is to download and install the TweakUI PowerToy from:

<http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx>

The x-window interface is one of the options that can be tweaked along with
scores of others.
