I'm trying to perform a repair install on a computer that will boot just to
the point that it switches to the blue screen that says "Windows starting
up". At that point it freezes. It's a two year old, home built machine
running XP Home. The original disk does not have SP1 or 2, it's an older
disk from a computer that no longer exists. It's not an OEM copy.

Question..When I try to load the disk so that I can do a repair it asks for
the administrator password. I've never set a password on this machine, and
I'm the one who built it. Is there a way around this??? Any tips or
suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You're in the Recovery Console which means you're in the wrong place.
Please also note that you will need to do the Repair Install with a
version of XP that matches the one on the computer; i.e., XP Home
SP[whatever], retail or OEM, etc.

If you didn't set a password, then just hit <Enter>.
