Post subject: Video problems in Windows Explorer and in Games
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>video (more info?)

Hello,
I don't know the cause of the problem because I have
recently - defragged the hard drive, installed new
chipset drivers, and new video card drivers. I get
a series of black and white boxes when I start a game,
such as Americas Army or the Max Payne demo. When
browsing in Windows Explorer icons that don't have a
set icon are very blurry (looks icon set overtop of a
page with random grey transparent shading). Movies have
a green or static line running horizontally through it.
I have WinXP Home, upgraded from Win98. GeForce Ti4200,
VIA KT400 Motherboard with 1gig of DDR 333 RAM and an
Athlon 2000+. I'm at college so I don't have all the
setup discs for my computer if I have to reinstall
anything, but I did bring my WinXP discs with me. Oh,
also have DirectX9.0b, and the new Hyperion 4in1 drivers
from VIA and the newest Detonator drivers from Nvidia.
Thanks for your help,
William

Sorry, but I forgot to metion another problem that I just
noticed since this problem came up. The BIOS says that
my DDR 333 RAM is running at 333 MHz, but WCPUID, I
program that I used to make sure everything was fine when
I built my computer 5 months ago, says that it's running
at just 266 MHz now. This has changed sometime in the
last month, since I added another 512 MB of RAM.
Thanks for all you help,
William

WCPUID is looking at the speed of your CPU. BIOS is looking at the
speed/type of RAM. Two different pieces of hardware.
