built-in administrator accopunt not working

I had the administrator account enabled on the welcome screen but i disabled
it through computer management somehow and it does not appear their or using
the conventional Win2000 logon it sais that the account is disabled and to
contact the admin. I also tried the application you provided and nothing
happened, i have not tried safe mode yet because i do not remember the
startup keys you have to hold down

If you managed to disable the buiilt-in Administrator account, completely, and have no other Administrator level user, you're screwed.

However, you may be able to use a Linux boot disk to reset the Administrator account to Enabled.

Not really. This is kind of a last ditch effort. Download the appropriate package (bootable CD/floppy)

CD http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/cd060213.zip
Floppy http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/bd050303.zip

And extract the files inside. To create a bootable CD, you need 3rd party software such as Nero, Roxio or you can use ISO Rec order, http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm, to burn the ISO file to CD (assuming you have a CD burner, or access to one).

Go to: http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html and in the Download section refer to the How to make........ section for the package you downloaded. Copy and past it into a word processor or notepad and print it out. In fact, you may want to print the whole page. According to the instructions there, the process should be pretty automatic.

Once you've created the bootable disk, reboot the computer using that disk. The program will start, and you'll need to go through the instructions. The directory you want in Path and File Select is the SAM, so you'd choose option 1.

In section 4, choose option 1, and then select the Administrator account (default). In the next screen, you'll see the options for the Administrator account. Disabled probably has an X in it. See if you can highlight it, and change it to unchecked.
