I'm removing everything that says .net framework and starting over. Stay
tuned - haven't given up yet but my bottle of port is almost empty.

Cheers Al

mscoree.dll is a core component of the .NET runtimes. Apparently, you have
a wrong (old) version of this file on your machine. Try reinstalling the
..NET 1.1 runtimes to fix this.

Thanks for all your help. I am up and running, not so sure it was worth all
the hasle but it does work. I have to reset all my series and a few other
things but all seems well. When I remember back I did have an issue when one
of the .net installs had a problem from the windows update. That must have
beem mine and many others who are having problems with the upgrade.

Definately worth removing all the .net stuff and then installing. The update
gets all the lastest .net fixes and the roll up in one go.

So again thanks for all you help and everyone else who made suggestions.

I have three .nets installed in my computer, they are Microsoft.net Framework
1.0 Hotfix (KB887998) , Microsoft.net Framework 1.1 and Microsoft.net
Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB886903). So do I have to uninstall these .nets before
I update my MCE to rollup 2 ? I have a Hp m7170n Media Center

You actually *need* .net Framework 1.1 and the .net Framework 1.1 SP1 for
Rollup 2 to work properly. Those need to be properly installed before
Rollup 2 will work.

Now I'm confused, so out of the three .nets I have in my PC, which one should
I uninstall before doing the rollup2 update, Thanks Gary Tsang in advance.
Sorry I'm still an amatuer regarding these stuff.

It really depends. For some reason, a few of us have mixed versions of .net
installed. That is a mix of 1.0 and 1.1 which will cause the update to
fail. It is critical that a good working version of .net 1.1 with SP1 is
installed before applying the rollup.

So if you have 1.1 with SP1 installed and do NOT have hotfix 886904
installed as per http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=900325 then proceed with
the update.

If the update fails and you get tuner not found and component registration
failure, then you need to remove the update and remove all .net aspects from
your computer.

Now with a clean slate - reinstall .net 1.1 and the SP1 then proceed with
the rollup.

Hope that helps

Thanks Al Lounsbury for the information, i think I'm going to wait for now
until I'm sure how to do this and update it at a later time. Thanks a lot!

The Rollup 2

Dopher,

Which critical update are you referring to when you suggest that it be
removed using A/RP?

Sorry, I just found the KB article (900325) detailing that 886904 needs to be
uninstalled before doing Rollup #2.
