Post subject: Restoring offline files and folders
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>windowsxp>work_remotely (more info?)

One of our senior managers has lost some work. His My Documents folder
which was redirected to a server share and as such was syncronized
seems to have had a few files and folders which weren't set to be
available offline. When his new laptop was setup by a junior member of
staff she setup his folder redirection from the server share rather
than his current laptop and then deleted his profile on the older
laptop ready for it's recirculation.

Even file recovery programs are not finding the deleted files of
folders. Any idea if the contents of the CSC folder can somehow be used
to rebuild the directory structure or is it a lost cause???

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

N03L.

Try the microsoft.public.windows.server.general group for a good answer.

Greetigns,

The ability to restore files for data recovery tools depends on their
power. IMHO the most powerful and reliable are Active@ undelete and
Uneraser. Theese are truly awesome utilities that never failed to
restore or corrupted recovered data.

Thanks.

I've used Active@Undelete successfully in the past but on this occasion
it's found none of the relevant data. I even asked the user if he was
testing me. I was convinced that the whole thing was a wind up to see
how we deal with lost data. It simply doesn't seem to exist.
