Does anyone know how to set up a L2TP VPN connection between two Windows XP
computers. PPTP does work, but gives to many problems over two NAT / FW
connections using Alcatel Speedtouch 510 devices.

I'm currently receiving several error's like 789 or 781 when connecting to
the VPN server.
Unfortunately there not much to configure on the server side (incoming
connections). Does anyone knows how to install a certificate on the server
side or add a pre-shared key.
I'm wondering if it is even possible to create such a connection!

Any help is deeply appreciated
Jaco

It is possible to have L2TP connections between two XP computers using
Incoming connections. Pre-shared keys are not supported for incoming
connections and you need to use certificates. For more info on configuring
certificates for L2TP check
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/WindowsServ/2003/ente...ise/pro

Thanks
Giri

Hi Jaco,

There is no Preshared Key facility with Incoming Connections - but L2TP with
Certificates is possible.
You need to install certificates on the client and if your server is not in
the domain, install certificates on it by exporting from a machine which is
in the domain and importing on your Incoming Connection server.

You will need both .pfx cert (in personal store) and .cer cert (in Trusted
Root CA store).

Check out the HELP facility available with Certificate Snap in on how to
import and export certs.
Steps:
Start -> Run -> MMC -> Add / Remove Snap in -> Add ->
Certificates ->Close -> Ok
Then check the HELP menu.

Thanks,
Priya.
