I'm running PocketPC on an HP Jornada 540 I recently
bought used. After I first got it, I've been able to
convert .mdb files to Pocket Access. Then in the last 2
days I have suddenly lost that capability. I have
downloaded, installed and un-installed several PocketPC
programs I wanted to play with, and just noticed when I
click Options in ActiveSync, the Pocket Access line
says "not installed". I'm guessing either a file or a
registry key got trampled on as I added and deleted
programs. Anybody got the answer to fix this? Thanks.

Did you make any changes on your PC or your Pocket PC? Did you install
any updates?

Yes, I installed and un-installed a bunch of programs on
the Pocket PC, nothing new on Win XP. I even un-installed
ActiveSync and re-installed it, but that didn't help. I
suspect the un-installs on Pocket PC are removing some
registry keys needed for Pocket Access, but that's just a
guess. Any idea what keys and/or libraries are used by
ActiveSync?

Something may have happened during the removal of one of the programs
on your Pocket PC. You may want to try a hard reset (back up
beforehand, move all data onto your PC, then perform the hard reset
but do not restore from the backup and see if you get the Pocket
Access stuff back).

I had the same problem, and found the following arcitle in
microsoft.public.pocketpc from 2/10/2003:

Subject: Information on Pocket Access and Active Sync
Newsgroups: microsoft.public.pocketpc

I have noticed a few threads here regarding pocket access and the
ability (or inability) to sync with access databases. The problem I
have been having as have others, is that pocket acess doesn't show up
in the details section of Active sync but it does show up in options
but without the check box to activate it. There have been no
solutions to this problems and some statements that Pocket PC2002
doesn't support PocketAcess.

Well, thanks to Michael Boone of Biohazard Software (Maker of Data on
the Run) the problem has been solved for me. He suggested that I run
regsvrce.exe and register aosync.dll with the os. I backed up my
toshiba e740 with pocketpc2002, installed regsvrce.exe, and put the
toshiba in the cradle. After active sync and the toshiba recognized
each other, I opened options, found Pocket Access with a checkbox,
filled it in. NOW it Works.

Thanks Michael. Hope this helps others with this problem.

I downloaded RegSvr32.exe from
http://www.pocketc.net/release/Distribute/regsvrce.zip, loaded it on
the Pocket PC, ran it on "\Windows\Adosync.dll", pulled it out of the
cradle, enabled Pocket Access, and next time I put it in it picked
right up.

Looks like when I uninstalled a Demo program somewhere it unregsitered
the .dll, and broke Pocket Access.
