My frustration with SanDisk has finally boiled over and I thought I would
share it with this newsgroup, in the hope that I can seek some revenge by
putting potential customers off buying their SD cards.
I purchased a 2GB SD card for my PPC back in July of last year. In August,
after about a month, the card stopped working. No effort on my part could
retrieve the data or revive the card.
I corresponded with SanDisk through their e-mail support system and they
authorised the card for a warranty replacement. I despatched it to their
European centre on the 12 September. A month later, they acknowledged the
receipt (incidentally the delivery time via airmail was 3 days but anyhoo,
some administrations work slower than others).
After waiting another month, I enquired in November where my replacement was
and received a nicely written e-mail apologising for the delay in sending me
one, but assuring it would soon be on its way.
Finally a month after that, with no further response to any of my e-mails I
sent an airmail letter to the President of Sandisk pointing out my
disatisfaction with having spent more time away from my product than using
it.
Now a month later, still absolutely no response. That, I guess, is now money
down the drain.
Anyway, if this puts you off buying SanDisk I will at least get the
vicarious pleasure of knowing that you are spending your bucks elsewhere and
ensuring that their outrageously poor after sales service is not rewarded.
If anyone from SanDisk reads this - perhaps you can find out what has
happened to RX095212?

My SanDisk SD Card already failed on my twice: for no apparent reason
the data become corrupt (lucky for me I had a backup). After reading
your story I don't think I'm going to buy SanDisk in the near
future...

Interestingly enough, the SanDisk SD cards I've had have had issues
(corruption) but the CF cards have been rock solid....
Not sure what that means for everyone out there but I've had a 1GB CF card
for over six months with no issues.

I purchased a 1gb Sandisk SD card a year or so ago about 2 weeks after they
were put out. I haven't had a single problem with it since. I use it all
the time, I wouldn't say heavy, for videos and pictures. So far I've been
lucky.

This is not really the forum for a moan, although I do understand your
frustration.
fwiw out of all the memory cards I've bought and used the only one with
problems was a Sandisk (CF in my case). It was returned to the retailer but
it took over 3 months to get confirmation of a problem and a replacement- of
a different make. |

FWI, I've owned over a dozen sandisk EXTREME memory cards over the years
without any trouble whatsoever. What's more, I accidentally put a 256 MB
CF through a wash cycle. To my surprise, it works just fine to this day.
I'm pretty sure every manufacturer has their share of problems; the
difference is how they deal with them. As much as I use email, anytime
I've got a problem, I prefer to deal with it over the phone. Constantly,
if need be.

Exactly. It's just like buying a HD on your computer. All are real prone
to failure, so you really want to look for the company with the best
warranty.
