| Does anybody know if it is possible to read files (jpegs) from a Sony memory
stick through either the SD slot, CF slot or expansion port on a Toshiba
e740 pocket pc? Are there any adaptors available anywhere?
Thanks,
Shaun.

Someplace I saw a CF card that would take both a SD card and Memory stick
card. I am not sure it was a Sandisk, Fellows or a no-name, just remember I
was surprised at the price ($13), I believe it might have been Fry's
Computer that had it.
I use a Sandisk Imagemate 8 in 1 card reader for swapping back and forth and
found that to be the fastest and easiest method of different formats.

Shaun,
The folks at Semsons & Co. Inc. have a 4 in 1 card reader($26) via CF slot
that can read SD, MMC, SM or Memory Stick media without any special
drivers or setup:

Been looking for a companion camera for my "SD only" ppc-pe for almost a
year now.
The three must have camera requirements are;
small
sd slot
macro focus capabilities
There are at least two Sony cameras, one of which would be in my pocket
now if not for their damm memory stick limit.
Anyone got any input on a camera with those three requirements?

Hi Beverly,
Well this one is a open question...
1. What do you call small ? Like a Sony UC20 (Gum Stick Size) or Fuji 700
?
2. SD's are harder to find......
3. How much money do you have ? (er what is the price range you are
aiming at ?)
4. About what do you want in MP quality ?
Several Sony's come right to mind, but they of course using the chewing gun
stick system. For a start, what about the Hewlett-Packard Photosmart 935
digital, its 5.3 MP, not too large, 3.8 X 1.8 X 2.6in and does use SD and
average price is $349. Not bad for 5.3 MP and 3X Optical, 7X digital zoom. I
believe that Fuji actually makes the camera as there is almost an exact Fuji
copy, but it uses the XD cards.
Either post it here as far as what you are looking at or email me, (munged
email, just change the 0 (zero) that is in com and it will work.
Also any types of cameras you like or dislike ? I usually have not been wild
about HP cameras, but the one above surprised me, it takes better photos
then my Nikon !

Thanks, both Tedd and Steven for the quick replies.
Looks like I'll be going with the Semsons adaptor as it reads a few card
formats, including memory stick pro.

This thread prompted me to peruse the cameras at our local Fry's again.
I had been close to the sony's despite the memory format, but while
there saw the casio ex-s2ou that looks like it might be the current
answer... small, sd and has a "macro toggle" that provides some (30cm)
macro capabilities.
http://www.image-acquire.com/casio/casio_ex_s20u/casio_ex_s20u.html
It will be a while, but the $250 price tag put's it in reach.

Beverly,
Try to get some sample photos from the camera, Real ones that you take. The
older Casio's had a habit of making the colors look too vivid and the pic's
were not always that clear. Another good place to check is ritzcamera.com as
they carry about everything and not bad prices. Fry/s might be a little
lower.

Bev,
besides my Canon EOS 300D (which is too heavy for the occasional snapshot) I
have come to love the Konica Revio 510. 5MPix, sleek, small, SD AND Memory
StickSlot, etc.
Seems itīs called KD-500Z in the US, one English link I found is

Hi Beverly,
Yeah, the memory stick is the only thing that I don't like about my camera,
the Sony V1 - hence my post above. SD would have been much more practical.
Anyway, have a look at www.dpreview.com for information on digital cameras -
you'll find the full specs there for most models, plus reviews and tests. I
found the site very useful when deciding what to go for.
Regards,
Shaun. |
