Post subject: how to get a list of all files on a WinCE device?
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>pocketpc (more info?)

I've been trying to find a way to generate a list of all files on my WinCE
device, and have not been entirely successful.

Using Windows Explorer, I can search for all files on the device.
Unfortunately the list in the Search Results window does not show the path
or folder for each file. I added the "Folder" and "Path" columns to the
search results window, but Explorer will not display this data for files on
a WinCE device.

Also, Explorer does not provide any way of printing the list in the Search
Results window, or any way of saving it to a file. I was able to save the
list in the Search Results window by using Nirsoft SysExporter; but again
this list did not show the directories or path information for the
individual files in the list.

There are programs for generating such a list of files on a PC - like
Karen's Directory Printer. It's very good, but it works only with
directories on a PC, and not files on a WinCE device connected via
ActiveSync/WMDC.

Total Commander has a function to print up a list of files in a directory
and subdirectories, but I couldn't get it to print up a list of all files
on the WinCE device.

Finally I used Total Commander to copy all files from the device to the PC.
And then I was able to use Karen's Directory Printer to generate a list of
all PocketPC files copied over to the PC. I was able to import this list
into a spreadsheet, with columns for path, filename, extension, size, date
modified, date created, attributes, and file version. This included many
zero-byte files - presumably these were ROM files that couldn't be copied
from the device to the PC. There were other unidentified files that
couldn't be copied at all - the number of files copied (including zero-byte
files) was less than the number of files that showed up in the Windows
Explorer Search Results window when I searched for all files on the device.

Sorry for the long-winded explanation but I wanted to share what I had
tried already and what the results were.
