Can't suggest why your device keeps freezing, but unless it is defective,
it must be because of some piece of software you have added? Be that as it
may, I have a couple of thoughts on the issue of the failed soft reboot. I
had a similar problem that related to something in my startup that tried to
access the SD card before the device had recognized it was there. Pulling
the card before reboot gets very far allows it to go to completion. The other
comment is to recommend a free app that allows the unit to go into ''Safe
mode" during reboot. It is called SafeMode and can be found at

I got an IPAQ 4700 brand new just yesterday. Since I've got it, it
keeps "freezing" doing very normal operations..sometimes it does it
when is just sitting in the cradle.
The only way to get out from this situation is to do a HARD reset (done
as specified in the manual), meaning restoring the unit to factory
defaults.
If I try a soft reset, the unit freezes during startup.. this happens
very often, just after a few minutes of normal use, everything gets
stuck.
This is really annoying, everytime this happens I have to configure
again the unit.
I have NOT installed any other software more than the factory
installed.
Anyone as ever had this problem? I've contacted HP of course, but I'd
like to ear if I'm the only unlucky one around..
Thanks!
