Archived from groups: microsoft>public>pocketpc (more info?)

Hi everyone,

I hope someone can help. I rcently bought a cable to connect my H2210
PDA to my laptop USB port for charging and data synching - to save me
hauling the cradle around every time.

However when I connect the two, the laptop sees the connection, reports
the PDA as an unknown USB device and says :

"USB device not recognised. One of the USB devices attached to this
computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognise it. For
assistance in solving this problem, please click here".

So I click there - and it then says:
"USB device not recognised. USB Root Hub ( 2 ports ) One port unused,
device not recognised".

I'd have though ( hoped! ) that I'd just be able to connect the PDA to
the laptp with the cable, and synch and charge directly. BUt no such
luck. Using the OEM HP cradle it hooks up just fine, and Activesync
launches and synchs the units. But I'd much prefer just being able ot
take the small cable with me for power & synching.

Any advice on what I might be missing? FYI, iPaq H2210 running PPC 2003
and Acer laptop running XP Pro SP2.

Many thanks in advance.

I had the same problem with my Ipaq2215; and it showed the same symptom at
work and home (I tried the cradle at home in case it was my work PC causing
problems)... it just stopped working one day. Lots of work troubleshooting,
re-installing activesynch, etc... then I managed to get my hands on a
different cradle, and the new one works fine. I'm not sure why the other
cradle went (and stayed) bad, since it was always installed at work, never
moved, and I never messed with the cords or anything, but the bottom line is
my cradle went bad. I'd suggest you test a different cable or cradle before
doing too much else...
