Windows Mobile becomes more and more obsolete as
each day passes!
Unless MS steps up with something worthwhile WinMo
will go the way of Windows ME and Vista!
Apple's OS and Android's OS seem to be where the
future is. Also if Verizon doesn't get on the
stick with better phone selections and better
offers to consumers they will see their market
share start to dwindle. |

I use TCPMP for video, but I like WMP's easy integration with MS Voice
Command, and better ID-tag support. WMP isn't too bad when I blank the
display, but with bluetooth, and Exchange Push running on the Tilt full
time, I'm lucky to get 10-12 hours out of the device even with minimal use.
I keep a spare charged battery handy to make it through long days. |

That's the problem in a nutshell. While I'm a WinMo snob, and prefer it to
other mobile OSes, Nokia is still, and has always been, IMO, the best mobile
phone hardware manufacturer. Counting off the top of my head, I've used at
least two dozen mobile phones regularly (not counting short trials and
tests) since I started using mobile telephones in 1992. All but four have
been Nokias. I'd be a much better world if someone could convince Nokia to
build a WinMo-based smartphone! |

On devices this small, the second speaker takes up significant room.
And I, at least, am very unlikely to listen to anything using the
built-in speakers, regardless of sound quality. I would much rather
have HTC use the room for a separate headphone/headset jack. Even
3/32 (2.5 mm) would be better than the "Enhanced" USB port and extra
cables.

Agreed. And while we're bossing HTC around, would it be too much trouble to
convince them to bring an IR port back? My ancient Sipix A6 portable
printer has been feeling left out since I bought the Tilt! |

1. Nokia did show pretty good speakers can be put in such a small phone as
the N95 (and its descendants). That is, I don't think this is the problem -
more likely HTC's completely ignoring decent multimedia features.
2. While I do listen to music most of the time thru either wired or A2DP
headphones, there're times when I just can't. For example, when, after
coming out from the swimming pool, I just lay down on the bench in the (most
of the time, empty) dressing room, take out my phone and browse the Net;
during this, listening to some tunes on the same phone. I couldn't do this
with headphones because my hair / my ears are still wet.
For this, I've found the N95 the best exactly because of the speakers - at
least before getting the iPhone, which is way better for casual, not very
demanding (no Flash etc.), easy, touchscreen-based - but stylusless, which
makes Windows Mobile useless right now - Opera Mobile 9.5b2 is still worse
to handle than Safari on the iPhone - Web browsing than any other platform.

Yeah, IR, particularly CIR would be great... I just don't see the point in
refusing to install CIR in current phones. I still take out my iPAQ 2210
(still my "workhorse" PDA for casual dictaphone / recording, jutting down
things and, of course, remote controlling TV sets in restaurants and the
like ) I think the latest CIR diodes are pretty small.

HTC Touch HD - 3.5mm stereo port. Plug in headphones, speaker lead etc.
Bluetooth v2, I think it's stereo too.
