Has anyone seen a good phone running windows mobile?
I feel like Verizon has given up on Windows Mobile.
I would like a large screen Like a BB or IPhone, 3"-4", usb, wifi, BT, SD.
Does it exist? |

Nope not me. But my last disappointing purchase (XV6800) brings up one last
thing a good phone should have; stereo.

Not that Verizon can utilize- the closest thing that fits your requirements
seems to be Sony's Xperia X1, and that, as of yet, does not exist in a CDMA
version, just GSM. Sony sells it unlocked for $800. As far as USA carriers
go, it's compatible with AT&T, and quasi-compatible with T-Mobile. T-Mobile
uses a new frequency allocation for 3G, AWS IV, which no WinMo device
currenty offers, so you'd be stuck with with EDGE (2.5G) data speeds on the
X1.
Rather than give up on WinMo, I'd say Verizon has a pretty good selection-
the Samsung Omnia, Saga, VX-6800, 6900 (Touch), etc.
The real advantage of GSM is not being limited to only the handsets your
carrier chooses to offer. |

There are many Great Phones out there, the ATT - Tilt(TyynII) Fuse
(Touch Pro), Verizon - Omnia, ? - X1. The weak points are the
modifications that the carriers do to the Os, and Windows Mobile
itself. There are many 3rd Party applications available to remedy the
bugs, but they should be be taken care of at the source. |

Reviews that discuss actually phone quality (ability to get signal,
quality of sound) suggest that many Windows Mobile phones are sub par.

I see you started a thread about the XV6800 that suggests you have
one. It's specs sure look close to what you stated.

The XV6800 does not have a big enough screen, its mono, No good ring tones.
Why can't a PDA utilize mp3's for ring tones?
I spend $1,800/year (plan + device) and I had to sign a 2 year contract.
It would seem to me that for that kind of money I could get a little more
value.
The Omni was not available when I got my XV6800.

Both BT, and wired stereo heeadphones. The latter requires an adapter
dongle for HTC's stupid proprietary "extended USB" connector. Belkin makes
one for about $20, but I've used eBay knockoffs without a problem. Google
(or eBay search) "HTC audio adapter" and you should find it. It plugs into
the USB charge port and has three connectors: USB charge port (passthrough,
so you can listen and charge at the same time), 1/8" stereo plug for
headphones or audio cables, and USB headphones port for the proprietary HTC
headphones Verizon saved $3 not including in the box with your $300 phone.
> I appreciate your help. I will do some research on the ringtones.
Check the device with File Explorer- there's probably a "Rings" or
"Ringtones" folder under \Windows- they usually go there. Anything Windows
Media Mobile can play (.wav, .mp3, .wmv) should work. |

I had to go with Verizon, I had to get a windows mobile, I had to get the
largest screen offered, I had to have a physical keyboard. The XV6800 was
the only option. Not much due diligence to do, but thanks for the comment.
I am glad to see the Omni is available from VZ just a few weeks too late.

I bought something similar from eXpansys:
http://www.expansys-usa.com/d.aspx?i=158519
I also bought a far smaller (but less versatile) converter:
http://shop.brando.com.hk/prod_detail.php?prod_id=01945&cat_id=0312&dept_id=002
I'm not sure whether I bought it from Brando, but I have bought other
things from them, including some good screen protectors.

I've bought the smaller type on eBay, as well, but my Tilt is such a
battery hog I rarely use it as a media player without needing to charge it
simultaneously! |

Very few WinMo phones are stereo - the ones I know of - Universal, Wizard,
Flame - are all outdated (and, speaker-wise, still way inferior to, say, the
Nokia N95).
I've been constantly telling HTC to include stereo speakers just like Nokia,
but they just wouldn't listen. Well, it's their problem - my next purchase
will be a Nokia N97 and not the HTC Touch HD, then...

Did you try switching to a media player consuming less battery life
(CorePlayer, iPlay/Phantom, TCPMP etc.)
