I bought a set of bluetooth speakers (LG MSB-100) and paired them to
my XV6900. They worked fine - until a call came in. The call
switched to the speakers as designed, no problem. When the call
ended, though, the music played on the phone. Nothing I could do
could send the music back to the speakers, except turning off
bluetooth at my phone, powering down the speakers (had to turn
bluetooth off because the speaker power button kept wanting to make my
phone redial the last call!), powering up and repairing.
Quite the hassle for "hands free" music, no? Any recommendations on
how to find the solution to this?

I've seen problems like that a lot and there is a shorter way to fix that
particular problem.
After you cycle the bluetooth on your phone go to the screen with the list
of "Devices" and Tap and Hold the device you were using before the phone
call. When a menu pops up tap on "Set as Wireless Stereo". That should fix
it right there under normal conditions so you shouldn't have to cycle power
on your bluetooth speakers.
Sometimes the bluetooth will just shut off on a phone with WM6 or WM6.1 and
I always cycle power on the phone after that happens then I do that Tap and
Hold bit mentioned above.
BTW I have a computer that is always on that has a bluetooth adapter on it
and speakers. All I have to do to redirect the sound from my phone to the
speakers on that computer is use that "Set as Wireless Stereo" trick
mentioned above.
As for the question in the subject of your post. There is a newsgroup just
for cellular.bluetooth but about all I've seen posted on it is SPAM. |

The other thing is to dig out the bluetooth version for your phone and
post it... look in the bt manager "about"
among other things, different versions support different connections and
features... I have a relatively early wacom ppc version (1.6.0) that
exhibits the same symptoms and I have been unable to address them other
than to soft reset when they occur.

>> Where to go for bluetooth issues? <<
to answer this, essentially nowhere, as wacom and other bt device driver
providers refuse to even acknowledge that they have end users... there
are normally zero driver update options.
The only remaining logical place to go is the oem or the vendor and they
beg off with "they are not our drivers"

Before the tablet makers start picking on you, that is Widcomm, not Wacom!

Ok, I'll quote what it says on a computer I'm looking at right now.
The title bar states:
About My Bluetooth Places
Then below that is states:
My Bluetooth Places 5.5.0.4400
Copyright 2000-2008. Broadcom Corporation
WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software 5.5.0.4400
So it is Copyright 2000-2008 Broadcom but it is called WIDCOMM Bluetooth
Software and don't ask me why because I don't remember right now.
BTW there is newer WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software out but it requires an
Internet connection to install and I don't see any advantage to that version
over the version I'm using. |

You may want to "hack" the MS BT stack on your phone.
I've quickly looked around at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=390
and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=391
for all occurrences of "widcomm" and "broadcom". Unfortunately, all I
could find out was the fact that the original Vogue models (NOT the
Verizon ones!) run the MS BT stack (see http://forum.xda-
developers.com/showthread.php?t=469327 ). Therefore, you may want to
post a pair of threads to XDA-Devs asking for pointers to a hacked ROM /
custom installer package that would install the MS BT stack on your
phone. Hopefully it exists.
Note that doing so isn't entirely without dangers - dunno what happens
when you try to install a GSM rom on a CDMA phone. You may also want to
investigate this if you can only go the "full ROM change" route because
there aren't add-on MS BT stack installers (which, at the same time,
also disable the Widcomm BT stack).

Thanks to all who replied.
I deleted the device - we decided to take that one back. Especially
since it was $50 through Verizon and $20 through TigerDirect!! But I
will remember the "Set As Wireless Stereo" for my next device, because
I will have ne.
Agreed on the spam in the bluetooth forums - that's why I came here.
I'm running WinMobile 6.1 Pro - I can't find what version of
Bluetooth.
One other tidbit I found somewhere on the 'net - answer the call from
the speakers, not the phone. Something about answering from the phone
apparently pulls sound back to the phone, although not control - you
can't re-pair the speakers by briefly pressing the mulitifunction
button because that makes the phone redial!
Oh - and the LG "help" tech I spoke to had no clue about these - they
weren't even in his database!
Think I might go with some headphones instead . . .
Thanks again!

If it's a Verizon VX****, then, it's a Widcomm BT stack. All newer versions
(even as of WM5 years ago) support stereo A2DP; that is, the real version
isn't of real interest.

Well, BT A2DP isn't really standardized. For example, with the latest
iPhone firmware (which introduced Voice Control via Bluetooth), many a2dp
headpones lost the ability to initiate outgoing calls. And, of course,
incompatibility issues are abound - not only on iPhone, but also on Symbian
and, to a much lesser degree, WinMo and the Blackberry. |

And I thank you for informing me about the LG MSB-100.
I was in the market for portable bluetooth stereo speakers and gave up on
them when I couldn't find any I really liked. After looking up LG MSB-100
on the Internet I found out there are all sorts of companies selling
portable bluetooth stereo speakers that I could be happy with.
I will say this too. I have a minor problem with a Touch Diamond and a
Motorola S705 and that is they want to keep connecting hands free and all I
want connected is the Stereo part. When that happens I have to tell the
Diamond not to use anything at all, click Save and then go back and do that
"Set as Wireless Stereo" bit. |
