this might help some people considering purchasing the Dell axim x50v,
beware it has big issues with wifi and bluetooth radio,
you nearly always have to soft reset to get them working because lack of
memory
you will also have trouble with some today plugin like Journal bar and
battery bar etc. conflicting with other programs
hopefuly Dell will avetually address these problems but in the meantime thay
are a pain in the neck

I have an X50V (upgraded to latest ROM) and have no problem
at all in running Wifi, Bluetooth and Wifi and Bluetooth
together. As I understand it, the problem is NOT with the
Axim or Dell, but a problem with Windows Mobile 2003 SE and
can appear on all PocketPC's. The problem is caused by SE
not allocating memory correctly and is linked to Today
Screen add-ins.

As far as other today screen plugins conflicting with other
programmes, that isn't a Dell issue, but an issue for the
authors of the plugin and the conflicting software. No-one
blames Microsoft when a dektop application conflicts with
another one, so why blame Dell for this one?

Some searching on www.aximsite.com will bring a bit of
clarity to this.

How is your X50v performing Robert?

A visit to www.aximsite.com will give anyone who is concerned a full
picture. In summary, it seems that certain Today plug-ins (Journal Bar has
been identified as a mjor culprit) do not properly free up memory after
using it. This non release of memory means that Bluetooth & Wifi cannot be
used at the same time, due to a lack of available memory if a lot of apps
are open at once. A soft reset frees the memory back up again.
I'll be avoiding Journal Bar...

I own an x50v and have not had the problem described here. Perhaps the OP
loaded all of his programs into RAM instead of to a SD card or CF card when
possible. The x50v is perhaps the best unit I have owned, and I have owned
several different brands/models.
I have no problems with Bluetooth/WiFi, and I am using BatteryPack Pro 1.1.1
with no issues.

OP did not stat whether he updated to the latest A02 ROM.

Why would conflicting programs be Dells fault? Find alternatives that
will work together.

Yup, Yup, Yup...I agree...the only issue I have with Dell is their
support team. If you have a problem, don't call Dell, go to Aximsite,
or Brighthand, or some other forum...they'll have answers...Dell does
this, "try this...and write back..." On one occasion I experienced
while trying to set-up my bluetooth to pc so i could surf the net on
bluetooth, this was my reply to one of their so called tech-reps:

"Hello Vivek:

The Bluetooth is one of the features embedded in the unit itself. There
is NO 802.x card to insert. 802.x refers to wireless communication, NOT
bluetooth...I believe.
Did Dell train you? You need to send my case to someone who knows the
Dell Axim X50v model...I am sorry, but your email does not help at all.

Good day,

Then I got an answer to call their "special" 1-800 number...624-9896, so
you might start with that number first.

ALoha,
Greg
