Post subject: Treo 700p and radio
Archived from groups: comp>sys>palmtops>pilot (more info?)

I consider updating my old m130 to a smartphone, namely the Treo 700p,
but I do have a few questions:

Is it possible to use it as a radio receiver {especially FM and DAB}? I
know it is possible to listen to radio through /streaming/ from the
internet, but that sounds quite expensive in use. And of course podcasts
are possible, downloaded from computer to smartphone. But genuine radio?

And on the headset that comes with the phone. It seems to be connected
to the smartphone through a wire. And - is it the usual kind of headset
like the one I'm using on my present {old} Nokia 3410 mobile phone with
an ear-speaker that drops out of the ear all the time?

<http://www.nokia.co.uk/nokia/0,,18163,00.html>

with a HDC-5 (with remote button) headset

<http://www.nokia.co.uk/nokia/0,8764,21422,00.html>

It will make life much easier to combine a palm pda {I use it witdh
DateBk6, powerOne Graph 4.2.3 with full set of financial templates
added, A-lex English-English and the Duden-Oxford German-English-German
dictionaries} with a mobile phone + a tiny radio especially if it is a
DAB radio.

To-day, I go around with three different devices ;-(.

There is no radio in the 700p, it can play MP3s and you can store them on
the SD card. The headphone that it comes with is pretty much a throw away,
you could get a bluetooth headphone if you want. I've just moved up from
the 650 to the 700p. EVDO makes a huge difference, e-mail, web browsing
and ssh are all very satisfying on the 700p, on the 650 they were usable
but they were painfully sluggish.

OK.

I don't know whether EVDO can be used in Denmark; simply put I've never
heard about it before. But I do crosspost to a couple of relevant Danish
newsgroups, and make a FUT to the groups to make sure that the palm
newsgroup isn't overcrowded with irrelevant article {if anybody replies
from the palm group just remove the FUT}.

And then I give a link to the Danes:

You could use PocketTunes to play Internet Radio using the Cellular
carrier.

Yes, but that would be dear. Receiving FM or DAB radio would be free.
