The battery on my Sony Clie T665C with OS 4.1 is dying, and I will likely be
upgrading in the near future to a Palm TT2. I use Backup Buddy. I would
like to use the same name for the TT2 as the Clie so that I will be able to
use applications registered in the original device name.

Do I need to uninstall the Palm Desktop 4.0.1 before installing the new Palm
Desktop? Can I just Hotsynch the new device to retrieve my data? I do not
want to automatically install all the applications from the Clie onto the
TT2 because some of the applications might not be appropriate for OS 5.2.
All I am concerned about is the data. I will likely have to relinquish the
Clie before I obtain the TT2, so that I will not simply be able to beam data
from one device to the other.

I would appreciate any advice.

Thank you.

Palm has the instructions posted
<http://www.palm.com/us/support/tungstent2/> in the middle of the screen;
'Upgrading from a previous Palm Handheld? Get step-by-step instructions
on the upgrade process.'
It is also in the setup guide in the box. Do not skip a step.
Anything you load up that is not compatible will cause crashes galour.
