Those screenshots are beautiful maps. As a (free) alternative I like Metro

There are no maps, but how to get from places via the underground/tube/metro
and or bus routes in many, many cities across the globe, you can't beat it
(or at least I can't)
It also ties in with your contact list (assuming you know the closest bus,
tram, metro stop) so you can navigate to people, not just to stops or points
of interest.
Again if you want street maps as well as public transportation information
Metro is not for you, but if all you want is directions check it out.
