I need to create and view HTML files on my T3, since I collaborate on
several projects that have settled on HTML as the standard for formatted
material. On my desktop machine, I use a text editor and hand-code the
tags, save as text format with an ".htm" extension, then use Netscape or
IE to view the results.

Is there some good way to do the same thing on a Palm?

I haven't tried this, but you should be able to save the HTML file to a card
or RAMDisk, rename the HTML as a .txt using FileZ, use Documents to Go to
edit the TXT file, rename it back to HTML, and open in with WebPro.

The only software you'd need that doesn't come with the T3 is FileZ, which
is free.

At the moment, the Palm desktop is refusing to sync in .htm files because
it claims there is no reader for them on the handheld. Do I need to turn
on or configure WebPro somehow?

And is there some way to avoid playing games with the extensions and just
open a .htm file for editing?

Hmm, I guess HotSync doesn't like that. I'd suggest either using a card
reader, or a program such as Card Export.

No, but as already posted, use VFSRegister to tell the os where to sync the
..htm files to.

Sure. As an example, the freeware VFSi. Register the .htm extention with
the Text plugin in the VFSi settings. Then you can browse the card with
VFSi and open/edit/save the .htm files on the card.

If your desktop has file sharing enabled, and is bluetooth aware, you could
also use SMBMate to get/send the files from the card, and skip hotsync as
the transfer method, thereby negating the need for the VFSRegister step to
tell Hotsync where to put .htm files on the card.

For simple .htm files, if one's playing the rename game, you can also use
QuickWord. It's format is rudimentary HTML. Long before they release
"Native document handling" I was saving QuickWord documents to card, and
renaming the .pdb to .htm to email to MS Word users. The only trick is that
there's a line of extended ascii at the top, presumably some QuickWord file
info, that can be trimmed with a text editor like VFSi. In fact since many
Desktop word processors are forgiving enough, you can even rename the file
as .doc and have your Word using target audience open it with a double
click.

VFSRegister would allow you to sync the files:

Of course, the next question would be how to get WebPro to consent to run
without connecting to anything. Is it possible to read local HTML files
with WebPro?
