Have people noticed a big difference between faster and slower
PPC's in relation to smooth MPG playback? I have the h1910 running at 200MHz
and MPEGs look bad, the max frame rate I can get is around 6 to 9 frames
per/sec. Using Speed Stepper (over clocking @ 332MHz) gives a much more
smooth playback, but still not 100%.

Do people find 400 Mhz PPCs 100% good for MPEG playback? Or are there still
some issues?

Also SD cards.... these days their bandwidth is up around 10MB/sec compared
to 2MB/sec in the older ones... do people find big differences between these
as well when playing MPEGs?

Any info would help.
Cheers

Can't remember where I read it but the bottleneck is generally your device
transfer rates which don't approach that of card capability. What does your
device claim? Have you tried a benchmarking program to see what it really
does?

I have just bought my first ever PocketPC, an IPAQ 4150 with the 400mhz
xscale CPU. I have been very impressed with it's video playback using
PocketTV and WMP. With PockeTV it can play back 320x240 30fps mpegs from my
SDRAM card without dropping a frame in fullscreen mode. Does not run quite
as smooth in windowed mode, presumably because the scaling down takes quite
a bit of extra CPU time.
WMP also runs just as well with either local or streaming video. 300kbit
streaming web video plays just as smooth as on my desktop.

Overall I am very impressed with it's multimedia performance as you can tell
Smile Wasn't sure what to expect since this is my first PPC, but it's
certainly a very capable CPU packed in there.

I've ipaq h1940 (266 mhz), no problem playing mpeg and wmv videos, very
smooth play (>15 fps, can be better too if the mpeg or wmv are encoded with
higher fps) and sound.

On some review bench mark tests are much faster than 400 mhz models.
