Could someone explain to me why they would want a smart phone?

It seems to me after looking at the pocket pc buyers guide that the
smart phone is a pocket pc phone edition where they trashed all
the good features of the pocket pc.

What am I missing here?

Smartphones are a lot smaller than PPC Phone Edition devices. The latest
C500 is an excellent phone, good battery life, small form factor and has all
the benefits of Outlook synchronisation, Internet Explorer, Media Player and
Outlook. They're not designed for road warriors who need all the features
of a PocketPC and Phone functionality, they are head to head with Symbian
devices such as Nokia's 6600 and Sony's T610. Oh and when the battery dies
they don't hard reset as all data is in non-volatile RAM unlike PPC!

Another major difference is that the Smartphone OS is specifically designed
to be operated with one hand, via buttons. That's a plus in many situations.
