I have a new IPAQ h4355 and purchased a PNY 512MB SD card for use with
it about a week ago.

My problem is that SD card becomes corrupt with folders getting lost
and 'garbage' files appearing with cryptic non-alphanumeric names.
This has now happened 5 or 6 times.

Are there any specific requirements for the SD card and are some
brands worse in this respect than others? There is no problem with the
internal memory.

I would say that there's something wrong with that sd card. I switch both
my 512 meg sd cards between 4 different ppc's(one is a 4350) and I've never
ran into a corruption problem

i had that problem until i realized that i needed to stop
any access to the cards (no music files playing etc etc)
when i wanted to powerdown or swap the cards.

i've not had a corruption problem since i started doing
that....

i've had that happen a few times doing hot-swaps with SD cards on my 5554
and 4150, but not consistantly. try a soft reset before changing anything
on the cards. good luck.

I've been warned against using an SD card larger than 256 meg. The problem
you are experiencing may have more to do with the unit's inability to handle
such a large card than anything else.

It could also be that particular memory, I have two 512 sd cards that I swap
between my 4350 and 5555 and I've never had a problem.

This is not good advice. I regularly use a 1GB card with mine, and have
never had any card corruption.
