Thinking of adding GPS to my Ipaq 3450 Pocket PC
I can't make my mind up between a Navman 3450 sleeve and a Haicom or
RoyalTek running Tom Tom 2 software?

I've looked at all the websites, both seem to advantages and disadvantages
and price is virtually the same.

Anyone used both and have comments?

Brett

IMHO, Navman's SmartST is less user friendly than TomTom Navigator. Whilst
Navman has more recent maps, TomTom has custom POI's which allows use of 3rd
party POI lists such as our UK Safety Camera database. I would expect a new
release of TTNav before Q3 2004, if they follow previous practice,
purchasers of TTNav2 would get a substantial discount on the upgrade costs.

I am using Navman software on an Ipaq 3970 and it is not that reliable. Its
maps seem to be way out of date and it sometimes gives some weird
directions. Not that impressed really.

I used TomTom a few months ago to navigate around the Carcassonne area
of France. I`d never been there before, but TomTom didn`t miss a beat
and took me through towns, cities and obscure country roads. It made
the trip painless. Only problem on two occasions were with newly
constructed roundabouts where TomTom thought it would be ok to drive
straight through them. Brilliant piece of software.

For the USA TomTom has just released revised USA maps and the upgrade
was free. Note that Navman has announced that they are switching from
NavTech maps to TeleAtlas maps which is the same maps as TomTom uses.

You can read reviews of both products on my web site. I will be
upgrading the review for the new TomTom version in a week or so.
