Mobile Word in WM 5.0 has lost its drawing (inking) function which was
present in Pocket Word in Windows Mobile 2003 SE. My question is can you
create a drawing in another application and cut and paste it into Mobile
Word in WM 5.0 and will it "stick"?
Secondly a question on inserting images directly into Mobile Word on the
Pocket PC - you can paste a jpeg image into Pocket Word in WM 2003 SE from
the album programme on the Pocket PC but you can't re - size it at all and
in my experience, the pasted image is larger than the screen.. Can you cut
and paste an image into Mobile Word from the Pocket PC album programme or
similar programme and re - size it down?

Best thing to do is to simply give it a try... the biggest issue is
determining how to get an image into the ppc clipboard as there is no
native way, but most image apps that I have seen have a menu option to
do so.
Next question... what's your goal... why do you need to do this within
pocket word?
pword files get pretty cumbersome when objects such as images are
imbedded, so, is there possibly an easier way to get to where you need
to be?

I can't give it a try as my current device is WM 2003 SE. The questions are
to decide wether to get a device with WM 5.0.
I would like to use Mobile Word as a freeform rich content information
manager repository holding text, images, drawings and voice notes. (Almost
kind of like a OneNote approach for the PPC). I currently use Pocket Word
under WM 2003 SE in conjunction with TreNotes (www.fannsoftware.com) which
uses Pocket Word or Mobile Word as its notes editor. The improved image
handling that I understand Mobile Word in WM 5.0 offers sounds appealing but
the fact that drawing and voice recording has gone in Mobile Word versus the
older Pocket Word takes me away from my goal unless you can cut drawings and
voice clips from other applications and paste them into Mobile Word.
The only option I'm looking at to do what I want is to get Pocket Slides
(www.conduits.com) for my current device. You can throw pretty much anything
at it - text, insert images and re - size, insert a sound, change background
colours, you name it. Moreover, you can position all the various bits of
stuff anywhere on the screen you like relative to each other - truly
"freeform"! The only thing it doesn't do is freehand drawings. It only
offers shapes.

Correction - in my last paragraph, I meant to say "The only OTHER
option.........." rather than "The only option..........."

The only relevant answer I can give you is that I reverted to 2003se
after trying wm5... the dropping of drawing in pWord was a major factor
for me.
Others are having better experiences, but with your specs, would suggest
at least waiting a while.
There is a full featured pword replacement out there, but I don't know
it and will wait for someone else to post a link.

You're probably thinking of TesxtMaker from Softmaker (www.softmaker.com).
I already have it installed. It does everything I want with the exception of
freehand drawing and voice notes,
Sounds like we all need to wait for OneNote for the pocket PC!

Phatpad's inability to handle directory depth of more than 1 on a storage
card seriously limits its usefulness for me.
When using trenotes on WM5 you wil run into problems when you try to use
word as the editor - it gives you an "unsupported format" error if you edit
a note with drawings from the internal editor. So, if you are sold on using
trenotes on WM5 AND using word as the editor you will not like the result.
The good news is that OneNote for PocketPC is inthe works. The bad news is
that they are focusing on the smartphone version first, which will NOT work
on the pocket pc.
Funny that Conduit'sslides was mentioned as a personal documentation tool -
I went down that path as well. About the only complaint would be the amount
of time it takes to set up pages, and that the browser for a large number of
pages gets pretty clunky, or at least it did at the time. |

PhatPad doidn't meet my needs either. You can't paste images or graphics in
other than as backgrounds. You can't re - size or move them. Some of the
Wallet programmes at least allow for a degree of control over positioning.
Re OneNote - if what you say is correct, I wonder why they would go for the
Smartphone ahead of the PPC as the real estate on the smartphone wouldn't do
the programme justice as compared to a Pocket PC screen! Sounds to me like a
market - driven decision i.e. more smartphones out there than Pocket PC's?

IMOH It is one of those MICROSOFT decisions that makes little sense to
actual users... Taking drawing out of word would seem to set the stage for
exactly such a product, but things aren't always linear when it comes to
corporate decisions.
Still, on most pages where it is discussed the vast majority of posts are
talking about Pocket PC, not smartphone, needs.
