Thanks Chris,
That's what I thought. In round two of this quest for a usability solution,
I just
posted the message below in the Public.Outlook and Public.Outlook.Contacts
section.
**********************************************************
Is there a relatively easy way to get Outlook 2002 to create a Task Item AND
automatically put the Contact Name and Primary Phone Number of the linked
contact in the subject field?
I've checked the "Office Tips" section and MS knowledge base...but haven't
seen any articles addressing this need. Any suggestions or information would
be greatly appreciated.
What am I trying to do? - Find a quick way to construct and update a list of
people I need to call each day...and have that information display an a way
that is equally usable and helpful in Outlook AND in my Pocket PC contact
manager.
Problem -
1) The "Flag for Follow Up" field attached to a Contact Record appears to be
the quickest way to do this in Outlook 2002...and the "Phone List" view in
that application can be set up to list contacts name, company name, and
phone number...along with the date I'm supposed to call them...all on one
line.
I can then make all of my calls...opening up additional screens only when I
need to take notes or schedule an additional activity.
However...in the Pocket PC world, ActiveSync is not capable of syncronizing
the "Flag for Follow Up" field...so I would be limited to opening up my
laptop anytime I needed a reminder on who to call next.
2) Outlook and Pocket PC appear to lead their users in the direction of
using Task Items to schedule things like phone calls. When I create a Task
Item from within an individual contact record using Pocket Informant (my
Pocket PC contact manager), the contact name and primary phone number are
automatically placed in the "Subject" field of that Task Item...and the Task
Item is automatically linked to the Contact Record. If I could get Outlook
2002 to behave the same way...I would have a workable solution. Right now,
however, Outlook 2002 creates a linked Task Item with a blank subject field.
It would be far too time consuming (and seems a bit ridiculous) for me to
retype or cut\paste the name of each contact and their phone number into the
task item subject field for each and every phone call I need to make.
So..."is there a relatively easy way to get Outlook 2002 to create a Task
Item AND automatically put the Contact Name and Primary Phone Number in the
subject field...so that my desktop contact manager and pocket pc contact
manager would behave in approximately the same way?"
