Archived from groups: microsoft>public>pocketpc (more info?)

Hi,

Have installed Vista Ultimate - works great. Except I now can't find
any workable way to sync with my Dell Axim 51v PDA. Active sync is no
longer compatible it seems, so I tried install the Microsoft Windows
Mobile Device Center Beta 3 for Windows Vista (x86) from the Microsoft
website.

The prog downloads, runs and then...nothing. My hard drive seems
hugely busy for some time afterwards, but then that's all I get. No
option to connect any devices. Nothing in Control Panel to suggest
that there is any software prog now available to run to connect any
devices.

Help?!

Hi,

You have to look around for it in the Programs menu. Even then you need to
attach a device then run it manually to get it to go. It took me a couple
of tries but now it seems to be working OK though it still doesn't always
popup when the device is attached. I guess that's why it's still a beta.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. It curiously has seemed to eventually install
itself in a clandestine and surreptitious way. But my device is
connected and working as normal, but whenever you go into the software
it just says 'waiting to connect'...

Any ideas?

A

If you're running the OneCare beta firewall then it will block the
connection. There are workarounds to this on the web.
