Post subject: Ipaq 4700 question
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>pocketpc (more info?)

I use my pocketpc to read a lot. I don't see any listed whether
MSReader is included in this Ipaq. Can someone who has this or the
Dell 50 tell me if this is no longer part of the package and if not
does the download from the MSReader website work. I have over 10,000
books in this format and desparately need to know before I consider
upgrading.

Not included, but can be downloaded from the MS website
and works fine on the 4700 - lovely on the large screen.

It is a free download from MS. They say it is included on most PPCs
anyway, but if it's not here's where you can get it:

http://www.microsoft.com/reader/downloads/ppc.asp

Hope this help

I've had nothing but problems with my 4700 and MS Reader.
Worked really nicely until I first tried landscape.
Since then I can't use screen taps to navigate.
I have been working with Microsoft for weeks to try to
resolve the problem, but no luck so far.
Apparently it has been taken to a higher level within the
support group.
I've done hard resets, re-downloaded, reinstalled it but
no luck.
Anyy suggestions from anyone with similar problems?
Any other programs that will read MS ebooks?

Thanks
Brian

Thanks for the quick response. While MSReader isn't perfect it is the
one I started with and hate to try to rebuild this collection at this
point.

You can download and install it from Microsoft. It isn't vga
aware, with the result that the text displays really big, although
very clear (no pixel doubling). Applying the tweaks2k2 hack
gets the text down to a more reasonable size.

Is that landscape while in reader itself, or had you gone to landscape
in another program then Reader would not work. I could see myself
avoiding landscape while using Reader but would still would like to be
able to use it in other programs.

Since ms reader repaginates the book depending on screen size
and font size, I wouldn't be surprised if it looses its mind
when you try to go back and forwards. That said, I just
tried it, and it appeared to work fine. It repaginates the
book every time, and gets a little confused at first, thinking
whatever page I'm on is page 1 until the repagination catches up.

Just a warning there have been a lot of problems with MSReader and the 4700 in the end I have binned it and ripped my lit books to an open format to read via uBook, I couldn't even activate the software the MS web site kept advising me I have an OS prior to 2002!!!!! MS tech support refused t assist and in the end put the phone down on me!!

That said it appears some people have managed to get it going, so give it a whirl you may be one of the lucky ones Smile

Best regards - Dave
