Post subject: Inbox Size Problem: Can anyone help please.
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>pocketpc>activesync (more info?)

My problem is that I am trying to sync with my desktop
Outlook 2002 Inbox and there isn't enough internal memory
in my PDA to hold the rather large volume of email which I
must have access to while I'm mobile.

I have a very large Compact Flash card, and a very large
Secure Digital card in this device and I'd like to change
the default data file directory to one those storage
devices, as oppossed to the internal memory. Anyone know if
that is possible?

Thanks so much for your help.

The Inbox has to be in main memory. Attachments can be placed on the
memory cards.

Thanks for your answer Rob. I appreciate your time and effort.

I have one last question; is there any way that I can copy
a large desktop .pst file onto my Compact Flash or Secure
Digital card and at least be able to access and read my
older emails, just to reference them?

Thanks for your response.

Hi,
No. The Pocket PC does NOT support reading .PST files.

Sorry to harp on this but can you think of any creative way
that I might be able to store a rather large volume of
email on an expansion memory card and, somehow, be able to
selectively read individual emails when necessary using an
application loaded on my iPAQ.

Thanks. I promise this is my last question.

In the Pocket Inbox 'tools', 'options', 'storage' menu, have you tried
clicking the option there - does that not work for you?

The only problem I have with that is that the option only sees the built in
iPAQ file store and not the larger SD Card... but I'm sure there'd be a
registry hack for that...

Thanks, but unfortunately, those storage options only refer
to attachments. I have serveral hundred emails that I need
to have accessible. I've been hauling a laptop for years
and was hoping to, at least, archive those emails on
expansion memory so that I could review them if necessary.

They don't have to be in my PDA's Active Sync or Inbox, but
I need to be able to call one up, using some application,
if necessary.

Any other thoughts out there? I'm desparate. Thanks.

Hi,
Pocket Lookout will do what you want - Pocket Lookout
http://lookout.vonken.com.

Also, there is NO hack to move the Inbox to a storage card. It's hard coded
to use the internal database in ram.
