Howdy!
I went from a 330 to an SJ22 a few months ago.
Go through your 330 and turn off/delete all of the HandEra-specific programs
that you may have installed. Things like AutoCF, and the program that turns
the Graffiti area into a keyboard come to mind. Also turn off all hacks and
any hackmaster you may have running. Then do a final hotsync of your 330
with your old computer.
Really it is as easy as copying the folder on the old computer that begins
with your 330's user name (like mine is MiniBob, so the folder I would look
for would be Minibo -- Palm only seems to use the first 6 letters) from the
Palm folder on the old computer to the Palm folder on the new computer. I
think the default location for the Palm folder is usually C:\Palm. Using
floppies should work.
Then do a hard reset on the SJ20 (hold down the power button, push the reset
button (the hole) on the back of the SJ20, and then release the power button
when you see the Palm logo appear on the display (the backlight may or may
not be on when the logo appears). A hard reset is also a test of manual
dexterity if you do it right.

Assuming that there is nothing on the Sony
you want to keep press the "up" button to erase everything.
Now do a hotsync with the new computer. Since the username, and everything
else, has been erased from the Sony the hotsync program will ask you what
the new username should be. The name for your 330 should show up in the
list. Select it and everything will be restored. Then go through and
restart any hacks and stuff. Some programs may not work, so just go through
and check them all. You may also have to reenter some registration codes.

If you've used the HE Backup program to back up the 330 to the CF card there
is no program on the Sony that will be able to read that backup file. So
this won't help you move anything over to the Sony that was in RAM on your
330. That will be done using the hotsync method above.

All of the other information on your CF card, like books, should be in a
format that will be usable on the Sony. When you get your card reader
running on the new machine, and stick the CF card in it should show up as
any hard drive or floppy would. You can just drag and drop the files
anywhere you want. To install them to the Sony I would just individually
hotsync them (double click on them), then use the programs on the Sony to
move them from RAM to a memory stick when you get one. Each application
program may have a different place (folders and sub-folders) on the memory
stick where it will want its data files to be kept, so just let the
individual programs handle it themselves. Letting PalmOS and VFS handle
things is a bit more complicated than the days of AutoCF on the HandEra
where you could just stick everything in the same folder.

Just transfer that whole 'your username here' file from the old Palm folder
to the new Palm folder and you should be fine.

Like I said above, the file created by the HE Backup program can only be
read by another HE Backup program. Sony's backup program backs up a copy of
each individual file in RAM, rather than squishing them all together into
one backup file.

The newsgroups.

I think everything changes so fast that the bookstores
can't keep up.

I don't think the built-in beam command will allow you to beam the
databases. It's just not that smart. A program like FileZ will let you,
but some programs actually use a number of separate files to keep their
information in, so you would have to know all of the files to beam. Just
doing the hotsync shuffle will take care of it.
