| Hi,
Considering buying a bluetooth enabled GPS for my PPC; however, every GPSs
I have seen in the market seem to provide the maps for only North America
and Europe. I would like to have one which provide GPS maps for Asia as
well. Does anyone know what brand of GPS provide this option? Thanks.

The availability of maps has nothing to do with the brand of GPS. It is
the Map software which is important here. I'm not aware of any PocketPC
compatible mapping for Asia as a whole, I have see maps for Taiwan and some
cities but nothing more yet.

Current info on MapPoint is that most of Asia will be in the next release, I
would guess this would be true of AutoRoute also.

Thanks for the info. I will be looking forward to seeing it being available
soon. The lack of mapping software limits the ability of using GPS. For
people like me travel not only witin North America, GPS will be considerable
only if it supports globally.

I know the feeling. I travel far more Internationally then I do in the USA.
I am not sure why there are so few Asia maps out there, it sure is one huge
market. I would be interested in what the car makers are using in the Sat.
Nav. systems that some cars are coming with now. (Althou it seems most of
these are export models only)

I don't know about other areas. But in Taiwan, there are quite a few
different local GPS software. They target the people living there. So they
are in Chinese. GPS is very very popular there. You may not able to use
them. I would like to see software companies like Tom Tom publish Aisan
maps.

Hi Bill,
Do you remember any of the names of them ? As I remember when in Taiwan I
saw alot of GPS systems, some Palm, Some Pocket PC and the rest looked liked
Garmin copies. I will be curious when MapPoint adds Asia as then the maps
would be available via Pocket Streets also. The ones I saw were all Chinese
also, if they had a English version, I might have gotten it.

I think the most popular one for PocketPC would be PaPaGo at
http://www.papago.com.tw/index.htm. On their web site, they claim they also
have maps for US, Europe, South Africa, Singpore, Hong Kong, and China as
well as Taiwan. Too bad that it is in Chinese. Even you install their
software, you cannot read it. It is from the same company making Monster
Chinese. http://www.mactiontech.com/
The other quite popular PcoketPC with GPS built in is Mitac Mio 168 from
http://mitac.mic.com.tw/digiwalker/products/168/168.htm. It ships with
software and built in GPS receiver. The consensus is that the maps are quite
limited compared with PaPaGo. But, it is quite inexpensive. BTW, Mio 168 is
available in US several weeks ago.
