Does there exist an app that would allow me to edit the application
icons under OS5? Searches for icon editors on PalmGear, etc. seem to
turn up things like IconManager, which won't do the actual app icon.

RsrcEdit should do it, although it seems like the version I have
installed doesn't do bitmaps better than 8 bits (and app icons
can be 16 bits, IIRC). Maybe there is a newer version that does
support 16 bits; I haven't checked.

http://www.quartus.net/products/rsrcedit/ is the URL.

By the way, if you don't know how database/resources work on the
Palm, you should find the application based on database name
(not necessary icon name -- the database name is what shows up
in the backups folder of the Palm desktop). Then look for
resources of type "tAIB". The one numbered 1000 is (normally)
the main (full-size) app icon, and 1001 is the small icon.
