Aloha to you,

Does anyone know if Adobe finally decided (or if they are still "working on
it") to allow PPC users to read ebooks? There are some books that are only
formatted for Adobe, and I would like to read them on my iPAQ (5500, WM2k3).
I think that Palm users have that option, do Pocket PC users have that
option?

I know that I asked seemingly forever ago, and got a response that they were
"working on it." Hopefully, that status has changed to "here it is."
(keeping my fingers crossed, but not holding my breath)....

TIA

It's on Adobe's site, and has been for a long time. If you check the
document properties it shows a created date of 12/11/2001, and modified
date of 16/11/2001

Now I am more confused than ever (which is a normal state for me I guess).

On their FAQ section (http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/30f36.htm) it
states in part:

Q: Can I view eBooks on PocketPC?
A: eBooks are not currently supported on the Adobe Reader for PocketPC since
it does not include the Adobe DRM system. We will evaluate Pocket PC support
for a future release if there is enough demand from consumers.

This section, according to the page was:
Last Edited
05/28/2004

Is there something else that I should know? Or has Adobe got me all mixed
up and I don't know what it is that I am asking because the date that is
given is later than the date of the program cited.

Don't exactly want to buy an ebook and then not be able to read it on my
PDA.

TIA

Why not download the pdf reader and try it? Perhaps you can get someone to
post a pdf ebook in one of the ebook newsgroups, not all can be copyright.
And ask the question there- the groups will have people who may be likely to
be more knowledgeable about ebooks/pdf's than here. I can say that I have 2
ebooks in pdf format that work on my ppc, but these aren't copy protected as
far as I am aware.

Surely for eBooks, you need Microsoft Reader for eBooks (free from MS), while
Adobe Reader handles PDF files only??

I have both programs on my iPaq 2210, and they each work perfectly with their
appropriate files.

Andrew

Aloha Andrew....

True enough.... I have MS reader, and use that as my default e book reader
program... However, there are some books (unfortunately) that do not offer
that option, but only adobe reader (I know, sad huh?)

Adobe reader for PPC only reads unencrypted PDF files and _cannot_ open
files in Adobe's "EBook" format.

Adobe's EBook format is a totally different animal than a PDF file, DRM
and all.

Adobe has been promising a release to deal with a number of issues for
two years, so, don't hold your breath.

No so sure about the being "so sad" part...

I am hoping that the day when everything is MS will not arrive...
