| When I scan any document with Tiger and HP AllInOne 1210 I get an error
message the moment I want to open the scanned document with Word or
Apple Works or TextEdit: "Conflict with alias name of the file could not
be solved". I wonder what name it means and I think that the OCR program
(ReadIris) that came with the HP is not found, but I cannot figure out
how to solve this.

Hi,
if the 1210 is like our 1110, you could try the following:
In HP Director (in the dock), open Scan To..., where you'll find the
targets in the right window pane. Edit OCR, search for, and choose,
/Applications/TextEdit.app manually.
If your ReadIrdis is any like mine, you need to change the
permissions (must be writable, readable, executable to all its
users). The easiest way for a single user installation would be to
create a folder called Applications in your home folder, i.e. like
/Users/bettina/Applications, then copy (not move)
/Applications/ReadIris* into this folder, then delete the original
/Applications/ReadIris*.

Thank you!
I copied the folder as you indicated, but anyway I had all the
permissions...
My HP director in the dock looks different from yours, I can choose
"scan document" there. Then when I do that, I can choose the programm
with which I want to open the scanned document. I choose either Word,
Textedit or AppleWorks. Then it still says "unable to resolve file
alias". If I choose "Tiff in AppleWorks" it works, but that is not what
I want, because it gives me a picture, not a text document.
But when I start ReadIris first and then scan, I cannot choose the
application with which I would like to open the scanned document, because
the option is grayed out...
Thinking of selling this thing an getting a better one, but what?
