Archived from groups: comp>sys>mac>hardware>misc (more info?)

Does anyone know if the plug remotes are different for the 3 and 4g
iPods. The jacks look the same (headphone jack and small 4 pin
connector). The reason I ask is that I recently purchased last years
model of the Burton iPod jacket. My 4g iPod when plugged in is not able
to be controlled by the jacket's sleeve controls although the audio
passes through. I called Burton and they said that the 4g uses a
different remote and only this years jacket will control the 4g. I find
this difficult to believe that Apple would keep the same hardware
interface, but change the code. Seems like they would be cutting out
backward compatability.
