I need to upgrade the memory in my 1.8 MHz G5 to 1GB, currently it
has 0.5GB: 2 banks of 256MB, PC3200/400 CL3 ram. Garritan
Orchestral Libraries specifies 1GB as standard (sic!).

Questions:
Most of the PC3200 RAM I see for sale has CL2 rating. The existing
ram is CL3 (CAS Latency, I guess). Is CL2 better? Is it compatible?
Is mixing 2 banks of CL2 and 2 of CL3 advisable or should I get two
new blocks of 512Mb CL2?

CL2 is better than CL3. You can mix them in the system without ill
effect, but you'll be operating as if it was all CL3. It really
shouldn't be a problem.
