My wife's iBook worked fine up until she really, really needed it. Opening
the laptop fully results in a completely black screen. Opening it just a
crack let's it shine its full glory onto the keyboard. You can't type and
see the screen at the same time, though.

I assume this is a loose wire at the hinge, and I'll take it to a local
repair shop, but I wanted to post here first and see if there's a known
problem that I can point out to the repair guys.

From what I have read, this could be a known problem with the ribbon
cable that takes the video signal through tth hinge to the display.
Some were a hair too short, so the repeated flexing eventually will
crack a wire or more. Partially open the ends stay in contact. Not
a problem present in all models of the iBook though.
