Today I bought 3 * 256 MB for my G3 in an Apple store, they said that
the G3 uses iMac memory modules.

The specs are 256 MB/PC100.

Unfortunately the Mac only sees 128 MB per module. Any suggestions about
what is going wrong??

How many memory chips on the DIMM? If only 8, then it will not work in
either the Beige G3 or the B&W G3 machines. Their memory controllers
only support RAM built from up to 128 Mb chips, that takes 16 to make a
256 MB DIMM. If the DIMM does have 16 chips, then it is possible that
it has an incompatible memory arrangement to work in your G3.

I've had this issue with bad memory. Or I should say, the wrong type of
memory. When a local store around here has memory on sale, it is usually
OEM memory. The stuff with all the spare parts from name brand memory.
If it's the wrong speed (e.g. pc133 vs pc100) is when I usually run into
the problem.

However, if you have a beige/B&W G3, you would need PC100 memory.
The only other thing I can think of would be the max amount of memory
your computer can use/hold.
I would assume Apple store would know what they're talking about, and it
should work. Check how much memory your computer can actualy hold (maybe
512MB (4-128MB chips) is it's max) and if it will hold more, it may be
bad memory.
