Please help. Am rather new to converting media, but am trying my
best.

Have obtained a video from company sales department that looks like
MPEG1 (20 minutes at 640x480 resolution, about 700MB), but uncertain
because Quicktime Pro cannot open it without complaining. Can view
and convert it using free TMPGEnc, or Sonic MyDVD type software into
smaller MPEG1 file (320x240 about 200MB).

But, after converting into smaller MPEG1 file (200MB), I can watch
(see and hear) on QT. But, I want to export it to streaming format
(MOV). As soon as I try, I cannot export the sound. Video can be
done and many formats available, but sound option is always greyed
out. For example, under 'Export: Movie to 3GPP', Options indicates
that 'No audio will be output because this movie has no audio tracks'.

What?! Can anyone help me? What is going on? How is it possible to
view the clip on QT Pro, but impossble to export audio portion? How
can I work around this and obtain the audio in a streaming format?

Many thanks in advance for any tips and help. Please feel free to
email me directly!

QT has never supported multiplexed MPEG 1 or 2 well. You can use a
demux utility to get around QT's stupid limitation.
