Post subject: change key mapping for Option and Command on Mac OS 9.x
Archived from groups: comp>sys>mac>programmer>help (more info?)

Hi,

I am doggedly trying to use a PC keyboard on my G4 here at work. Smile
It's running OS 9.0.4.

I've found articles explaining how to use Resedit to change the key
mappings, and I can successfully change the mappings of most keys, but
not the Option and Command keys.

I am stuck at the point where I am to drag the mapped character from
the character table to the key on the keyboard that I want it mapped
to. For one, the mapped character for the Command or Option key is not
in the upper left table, it's in the upper right. And secondly, there
will be no dragging of those characters, whereas other characters can
be dragged down to the keyboard layout.

If I don't even have to use Resedit, then please educate me. I did
find a post that referred to being able to do exactly what I'm wanting
to do on OS 9.x with some control panel, but I've looked through all
the control panels that seem remotely appropriate and haven't found
what I need.

Thanks so much in advance for any and all help.

IIRC, there is share/freeware to help with exactly this situation.
