Post subject: adding RAM to flat panel iMac?

Hi folks--

I have an original flat panel iMac--that has one 512MB RAM chip already
installed at the factory--and the other slot is empty. I now have another
512MB RAM chip to install in the "user-accessible" slot. I went online to
the Apple web site and got the directions on how to install the RAM--but I'm
asking if anyone here has any additional tips on installing the RAM--I don't
want to install it incorrectly, or do something that would damage anything.

I tried doing it this morning and had trouble doing it--so that's when I got
the more detailed directions from the website. I'm concerned about being
able to fit the chip into the proper slot without forcing it too much.

If anyone here has any tips on this, please reply. I'm upping the RAM so I
can better run Tiger when I get it later this week.

Tidbits just had an article on that in the last issue. They said you
need to add RAM in pairs. Check it out before you buy.

That's the G5 iMac, not the flat panel (G4) iMac the OP has, and it's
not strictly necessary for the G5 iMac anyway.

Yep, the G5. I somehow had my mind on that and blocked out that he said
"original flat panel".... sorry.

Not on flat-panel iMacs (or any other iMac), but on PowerMac G5s and
some old Quadra modelss.
