Hi all!

Where I work we are currently using Seapine's TestTrack 4.5 on Mac OS
10.3.9 for bug tracking.

We are thinking of upgrading to Mac OS 10.4, does anyone know if
TestTrack 4.5 works on that OS? Seapine's support is lame, and they
themselves do not know the answer. Sad

How about alternatives? I know of Bugzilla and Mantis, but have never
used them. I know it's a broad open ended question, but does anyone
have suggestions on which to use, their relative strengths, etc.?

We are a 5 person shop, and need something easy to setup, keep running,
and use.

Thanks!

Sean

For that size team, I'd be tempted to use FileMaker or something really
simple like that. Bugzilla and others like it are oriented more for
geographically distributed teams of dozens or even hundreds of developers.

At work (8 developers) we use FogBugz <http://www.fogcreek.com/fogbugz/>
It integrates well with SCM systems and email, it looks nice, it's easy
to use and it can be installed on Win32, Linux and Mac OS X.

You can also do a trial run on their servers.

Take a look at Bugzero, easy to use and flexible:

I'd second that. Bugzilla is like big-infrastructre, but not too friendly and
not the greatest feature set. You'd be better off with a homespun solution, a
little piece of shareware, or even a little newsreader (assuming you
have a server).
I like newsreaders because your threads can sit there forever, and you
don't have
to train anyone how to use it.

NNTP is, IMHO, one of the best-kept secrets around. It's a shame that so
many folks closely associate it with usenet's porn, warez, and other binaries
groups. As a technology distinct from usenet, it has any number of benefits
for business use.

INN compiles on Mac OS X right out of the box, and a private news server
isn't difficult to set up and admin. The biggest hassle one often has with
a news server is dealing with the bandwidth and storage issues associated
with a usenet feed - and that's a complete non-issue for a private nntp server
that doesn't connect to usenet.

Have a look at the O'Reilly "Practical Internet Groupware" book for a (IMHO)
fascinating look at how to make good use of a private news server.
